"Adam fell that men might be and men are that they might have joy." 2 Nephi 2:25
2 Nephi 2; There must be an opposition in all things. If not, there would have been no purpose in the end of it's creation. The forbidden fruit being in opposition to the Tree of Life. The Lord gave unto man that he should act for himself and was given this opposition in order to do so. Satan led to their banishment in the Garden of Eden into a fallen state, but provisions were made for them through Jesus Christ for them to return to God. If Adam had not taken the fruit, he would have remained in the Garden of Eden and everything would have remained in the same state, thus thwarting the plan of God. They would have had no children. They would have had no joy because they would not have known misery & thus would not have progressed. "But behold, all things have been done in the wisdom of Him that knoweth all things." (vs. 24)
Alma 42; After partaking of the fruit, man became like God, knowing good & evil. Then it was appointed unto man to die. Just as they were cut off from the presence of the Tree of Life, they were cut off from God on this earth. Because they were cut off from God both spiritually and temporally, they were subjects to follow after their own will. Thus the time of probation was given.
Moses 5: 10-11; Adam and Eve knew that were it not for their transgression they never would have known joy or had children. They would not have known good from evil or have understood the joy that comes from redemption. They recognized that because of their transgression, the could inherit eternal life through our Savior Jesus Christ.
"We were not like our Heavenly Father, nor could we ever become like Him and enjoy all the blessings He enjoys without the experience of living in mortality with a physical body." Preach my Gospel pp. 48
Bible Dictionary: Before the fall, Adam and Eve had physical bodies but no blood. When they partook of the fruit, the once impossible: sin, death, & children became possible & blood entered their bodies. After Adam fell, the whole creation fell & became mortal. As part of His plan, previsions were made in the pre-existence for both the fall and for our personal sin through Christ's Atonement. The fall is a literal event that happened in the history of man. Adam and Eve are honored in their station as the first parents of the earth.
Eve: Eve's name means "The mother of all things" and from the scriptures we learn of her nobility.
Adam: Adam is the patriarch and father of the whole human race on this earth and should be rightly honored. Adam is the ancient of days and also known and Michael. He is the arch angel and will come again to the earth preparatory to the second coming of Christ. Adam and Eve had a pure and perfect language that was both written and spoken. The were taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ, baptized in water and received gifts of the Holy Ghost. They were taught everything pertaining to receiving exaltation.
